The summer heat is coming on quickly! We’ve been playing in the water a lot lately just to keep cool. Here’s an art project you can do with your kids that is not your usual sidewalk chalk – blowing bubbles – running in sprinklers routine. All you need is a spray bottle and paint. We’d love if you’d PIN this spray bottle art project for later!
Kids Activity - Spray Bottle Silhouette Art
This project was inspired by my 3 year-old’s fascination with spray bottles. She is always filling one up and “cleaning” things or squealing with delight when she gets Mom or Dad wet. Seriously, your kids will love you.

How to make Spray Bottle Silhouette Art

Supplies:

1. Water down the paint – To get the paint to spray, I watered it down a little. This was a trial & error process. I would start with a small amount of water and 4-5 big drops of paint. You want the color to be vibrant and thick enough that it won’t drip.

*Note: washable paint would be much less messy than what I used and should still work fine.

2. Cut out a simple shape – You will need either a computer & printer to print your shape, a die-cut machine, or electronic cutting machine like a Cricut. You could still definitely do this project without any of those, using a simple hand-cut shape.

I just Googled an image I wanted, in this case a Mickey Mouse silhouette. If you’re using an electronic cutting system, like a Cricut or Silhouette, you could find some really fun shapes. A one-piece silhouette shape works best for this.
3. Attach the shape inside the cardboard box – I used straight pins to pin it onto a piece of white construction paper. The white paper was pinned and ready to go inside a cardboard box to keep the paint from getting all over. I had the box leaned up against the wall so my cute little helper could get a straight shot!

4. Start spraying! Get a good amount of paint on the paper, but not so much that it’s dripping a lot. As you can see, you don’t need every inch of the paper covered. Let it dry for a few minutes, take off the silhouette, and that’s it! Isn’t it so fun?

The possibilities with this are endless! We tried a B (my daughter’s initial) and it turned out great!

How cute is this in a frame? My daughter had so much fun with this. Hope you try it with your kids as well!
